Spring Break 2021
We managed to survive our first big road trip and still like each other! We went to South Texas to visit my parents at their winter home for Spring Break in March, and had some pretty amazing adventures along the way.
Our first day took us basically down Interstate 35, and we stopped to visit the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial. This was Lars’ first time to visit the memorial, but I had visited the site several times before, both during the day and at night. We also found a fun, out of the way brewery down by the tracks to continue our rest stop.
After cruising further down I35 through what felt like HOURS of traffic in Dallas/Fort Worth we made it to Waco for the night after making our way through even more crazy road construction and traffic.
On the final leg of our journey, we made a stop in San Antonio and drove by the Alamo before hitting a quaint little distillery and brewery for a quick lunch and samples of their spirits and brews.
Sunday took us out to breakfast then off to the Brownsville Flea Market.

After the Flea Market, we ventured down to the SpaceX site and saw SN11 on the launch pad and the rest of the facility before spending a little time on Boca Chica Beach. The rest of the day had us driving on South Padre Island and dinner at Dirty Al's for fresh gulf shrimp.
Beyond the beach, we visited the border wall,
ate a Gonzales burger with onion rings,
visited an onion farm,
and went to Mexico for a day where we enjoyed some Coronas and the absolute best mango margaritas we have ever had.
Of course, we visited some breweries along the way too. We even plan to make return visits to these at some point in our future travels.
Thanks for enjoying our journey with us! Until the next trip...which will be June into July when we fly to south Texas for another visit.
